This worked, the Movies & TV app you need to download to play back purchased videos from the Store played back 4k HDR videos from an attached hard drive fine. Looks like I can finally move on from all the stupid plex buffering issues. It is kind of silly the default Media can;t do it but this Movies & TV app can. Thanks for the suggestion saved me
From my testing, it just opens the video in Sony Video player, if the player can play the particular file format. Honestly you are better of keeping Kodi as it is, and if you want to watch something that is 4k, just use the Sony Video Player.
